Michael Bourn leading the league in triples

Bourn currently leads the American League with 10 triples. Mike Trout and Chicago’s Adam Eaton each have 9, so unless one of them has a big weekend, Bourn will become the first Indian since Kenny Lofton in 1995 to lead the American League.

Young, Yankees are Amazin’ for a night

NEW YORK — Chris Young could have used many words to describe the Yankees’ biggest comeback win of the season, but he chose a nearly perfect one for an ex-Met.

“It was amazing,” said Young, who just needed to drop the “g” to make it just right.

Still, close enough. Along with Brian McCann, Young led the way on a night the offense was as alive and the solid bullpen as good as they’ve been on any night this year.

Down four runs before they even came to bat, the Yankees would normally be done for the evening. Instead, McCann accounted for the first three runs — a solo shot and a two-run single — while Young was a triple shy of a cycle. He used the term “amazing” three times in the postgame.

Rockies activate Carlos Gonzalez

DENVER — Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez was activated from the disabled list Friday after he missed 35 games because of left index finger inflammation.

He was 1-for-4 with a run scored in Colorado’s 6-2 win over the Minnesota Twins.

His hit was a single ahead of shortstop Troy Tulowitzki’s third-inning home run, and he made two sparkling defensive plays in right field: a sliding catch in foul territory on a popup by Eduardo Nunez and a fast throw to third base on the fly to nail Brian Dozier. (more…)
